Paula stepped in just to lend a hand at Walnut Grove Marina's busy office more than six years ago, and when she found she really liked the marina and the people there, she later accepted a full time staff position. Since then, she’s put her years of management experience to work at what she likes to call "a dream job." She’s the "office Mom" at the marina, and loves the people, the fun atmosphere, and great new ownership of the marina.

But it's customer service that keeps her smiling. "I really love the direction this marina is taking with serving our members.”

There isn't any activity the marina is involved in that doesn't find it's way to Paula's desk. She prepares contracts, processes applications and orders, crunches numbers in accounting for fuel, repairs and utilities, but working with Walnut Grove Marina members, future members and folks just stopping by to check out the place is top priority.

Whether it’s answering any question people might have, or helping members, it’s all about the service. She'll even take her measuring tape down and measure a slip just to make sure a boat will fit before she rents it out. That's just the way she likes to pay attention to details when taking care of people at the marina.

Billy joined the Walnut Grove Marina's skilled technician crew two years ago, adding his talents and decades of experience to the marine services offered to members and patrons. "You have to be a multi-talented person around here," says Billy, "cause that's what it takes. In the Delta, you see all kinds of repairs. We've even had to use my skills as a diver to raise up a sunken vessel," he recalls. "That was a tough one, but you do what you have to do to keep members happy."

After spending more than 17 years in the automotive industry in Walnut Creek, Billy envisioned retirement on the Delta, and particularly, spending most of his time on his 40 foot cruiser.

But working with people and solving mechanical issues proved too much a part of Billy's "fabric of existence," so he first went to work part-time at the Deckhands Marine Supply in Walnut Grove working on two-stroke, and four-stroke engine repairs, and anything else that came up.  Before he knew it, he'd put in 22 years at Deckhands in marine repair of every kind, and even used his experience with computer maintenance to solve some frustrating problems within the shop computer program.

Now, at the Walnut Grove Marina, he likes to keep busy not only with technical and mechanical issues, but he'll even tell you a story or two about the Delta and his life here. “It’s a good life here,” says Billy.  “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”

When you come out to the marina, you'll likely spot a few friendly faces of our maintenance staff, Julio and Miguel.  Julio is always here to help get your boat back to the marina for repairs should you need a tow, or get the light turned on at the dock should it need replacement, installation or new wiring. “There’s always some kind of maintenance or repair going on,” says Julio. “And I like to be busy.”

And if you really don't want to spend a day or weekend cleaning your boat to get ready for a fun weekend, Miguel is here to take care of everything. That includes complete washing down of the outside, cleaning on the inside, and filling the fuel tank so when you arrive, just simply climb aboard, turn the key and go! When he's not getting a boat ready, you might find Miguel applying coats of paint to the outside, inside or underside of a boat, or working with Julio in landscaping, launching and dock maintenance. "We do all maintenance; what ever it takes," Miguel says. “We’re here to serve however we can.”

Maintenance on 40-acres at the marina keeps Julio and Miguel plenty busy. And lately, things have revved up to high gear as the marina undergoes a renovation like never seen before. Look for Miguel and Julio next time you visit us, and give them a wave or high-five…if they’re not knee deep in a new project!
